Vice-Principal of Glenforest Secondary School just west of Toronto, Canada.
We offer both Ontario (Provincial) and IBDP diplomas, the latter being a small Regional Program in its fifth year (evaluation this June).

I have arrived! More to come ...

Day 3 - Overall Reflection:
Coming in with an evolving experience with the IBDP and limited knowledge of the MYP, I've been impressed by what the programme endeavours to do wrt developing the whole child and cultivating global mindedness. I'm inspired and excited by the interdisciplinary and reflective aspects of the MYP and what it means not only for the student, but also for the teachers. What a tremendous opportunity for professional rejuvenation! However, as an Administrator, I'm also aware of the impending obstacles inherent to offering the MYP (and, to some extent, the DP) at our site given various constraints; namely, Ministry requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and timetabling/staffing issues as dictated by the collective agreement as negotiated by the teacher federation.
With the deadline looming for the Application for Candidacy, I'm on a mission to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the MYP and how we can possibly foster an authentic fit within our existing school programmes, deliver the mandate of the programme as it was meant to be delivered, and meet the logistical demands of provincial legislation.
I remain hopeful that the implementation of the MYP will not be impeded by political nonsense and that the higher-ups will recognize the need for such a pedagogically sound programme that truly meets the needs of our students.
